About

How does one make something beautiful in dark times? Join Rabbi/Cantor and writer Avram Mlotek, playwright Michelle Kholos Brooks and David Herskovits, founding artistic director of Target Margin Theater in New York, as they discuss the importance of art and creating beauty even when the world around you is filled with chaos and sadness. Mlotek is co-creator of Amid Falling Walls, a new musical featuring Yiddish songs written during the Holocaust. Brooks is the playwright of Room 1214,  a new play based on interviews with teacher Ivy Shamis who was teaching a Holocaust history class when a gunman began shooting into her classroom. Herskovits is co-creator and director of the new play Remember This Trick which explores American antisemitism, stories of Jewish survival, troubling conspiracy theories, and the trickster spirit that will save us all. In conversation with Willow Jade Norton, a theatre director and executive director of the Alliance for Jewish Theatre which is cosponsoring this program with MomentLive!
