Jimmy Carter: The Great “Jewish” President with Stuart Eizenstat and Nadine Epstein
About
By Moment | Oct 01, 2024
Jimmy Carter, who served as president from 1977-1981, had a complicated, and at times, contentious relationship with the Jewish community despite championing Soviet Jewry, helping 50,000 Jews leave Iran, pushing for legislation to create the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and brokering peace between Israel and Egypt.
Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat, President Carter’s chief White House domestic policy adviser, and Moment Editor-in-Chief Nadine Epstein, sat down for a conversation about President Carter’s life and legacy and why it’s time to set aside old anger and recognize that the policies he put in place made the world a better and safer place for Jews. Learn why Eizenstat considers Carter a “Renaissance Man,” what happened behind the scenes during the Camp David negotiations, and celebrate the 77-year love affair between the president and his late wife Rosalynn. In honor of President Carter’s 100th birthday.
