Less than two months into Trump’s second term, we’re already seeing the consequences. Diversity programs have been dismantled, leading to the removal of Black employees from the federal workforce; federal power is being consolidated, raising alarms about the erosion of democratic institutions; and executive orders are chipping away at civil rights protections, undoing decades of progress. While Black and Jewish voters supported Trump in record numbers, many now recognize the threats these changes pose—especially to communities that have historically been the first targets under authoritarian regimes. What lessons can we draw from history? How have Black and Jewish communities resisted similar threats in the past? And what can we do now to prepare for what’s ahead? Join the Wide River Project for a critical discussion featuring Moment Editor-in Chief Nadine Epstein and Race Forward’s Eric K. Ward, alongside Dr. Lillie J. Edwards, Professor Emerita of History and African American Studies and Dr Rafal Pankowski, cofounder of the Never Again Association in Poland. Together, we’ll explore the historical parallels—from America and Europe—and discuss strategies for resilience, solidarity, and action in this new political landscape.
