In the 1930s, Warsaw—often called the “Paris of the North”—was a dazzling center of theater, art, fashion and nightlife. It was also a dynamic hub of Jewish life in Europe, where religious and secular communities flourished and Jewish publishing thrived. Author Judy Batalion discusses this “golden era of Jewish art and culture,” a time that has been mostly forgotten due to the horrors of the Holocaust. Judy also shares why she chose to set her debut novel, The Last Woman of Warsaw, against the backdrop of this extraordinary moment in Jewish history. In conversation with Moment Opinion and Books Editor Amy E. Schwartz.
