The Forgotten Story of the Jews of Yemen with Naomi Kehati Bronner and Sarah Breger
By Moment | Feb 10, 2026
Beginning in 1949, some 50,000 Jews from Yemen made the perilous journey to Israel during Operation Magic Carpet (also known as “On Wings of Eagles”), completing the migration of the ancient Yemenite Jewish community. Dr. Naomi Kehati Bronner, author of the new book On the Wings of Eagles: From Yemen to Zion―A Family Memoir, discusses what her parents’ lives were like in a Yemeni-Jewish world that remained mostly unchanged since the Middle Ages, their abrupt entry into modern Israel, and the discrimination Yemenite Jews faced. Dr. Kehati Bronner also shares her own story of assimilation and the tension between honoring ancient traditions and embracing new ones. In conversation with Moment Editor Sarah Breger.
