About
Join Moment for a wide-ranging discussion with novelist and poet Richard Zimler, author of the bestselling novel The Kabbalist of Lisbon. In his novels, Zimler has attempted to give voice to those who history has forgotten or ignored. Zimler discusses life as an American Jew in Portugal, how Jewish history had been erased from Portuguese memory and the role of generational trauma in our lives today. He also discusses his most recent novel, The Incandescent Threads, which is part of his “Sephardic Cycle,” a series of independent works that explore the lives of different branches and generations of a Portuguese-Jewish family, the Zarcos. In 2017, Zimler was given Porto’s highest award, the Medal of Honor, for his contributions to the cultural life of the city and his adopted country. In conversation with Moment Editor Sarah Breger.
