About
The American Black-Jewish alliance of the 20th century is legendary. Jews and Blacks worked together to found the NAACP in 1909 and fought side by side to change civil rights law in the 1960s. The flip side, including the rise of the Black Power movement is also legendary. But the story of Black-Jewish relations in the 1960s is more complex than we often think, and not all of its lessons—and language—are relevant today. What can be done now to forge closer bonds between the two communities? Join Marc L. Dollinger, author of Black Power, Jewish Politics: Reinventing the Alliance in the 1960s; Civil Rights Strategist Eric K. Ward and Moment Editor-in-Chief Nadine Epstein for a conversation about the state of Black-Jewish relations and ways to build a new alliance for a very different time.
This program is part of The Wide River Project which takes a deep dive—and fresh look—into the art, history and issues that both unite and divide the Black and Jewish communities.
