In our September/October issue, we wrote about American whiskey’s little-known Jewish heritage. Below, explore five whiskey recommendations from the Jewish Whisky Company:

Westland Garryana // 56.2 percent alc., $105

The latest release from Seattle’s Westland distillery combines Pacific Northwest oak (Quercus Garryana) maturation with traditional new and used American oak (Quercus Alba) maturation to produce an American single malt that is spicy, rich, and unique.

Catoctin Creek Cask Proof Roundstone Rye // 58 percent alc., $80-$90

Released twice a year this award winning 100% rye whiskey from Virginia’s only organic and kosher certified Catoctin Creek Distilling Company has a wonderfully unctuous mouthfeel with surprising depth.

Glen Grant 16 Year Old // 43 percent alc., $60-$80

This former U.S. exclusive is now a UK exclusive but plenty of U.S. stores still have it in stock. The bourbon cask maturation produces an incredibly inviting whiskey that is creamy and fruity.

Kilkerran Bourbon Wood “Work In Progress” // 46 percent alc., $60-$90

Campbeltown’s reborn distillery, Glengyle, has been releasing “Work in Progress” bottlings since 2009. This sixth release, a 10 year old that’s the best yet, is hard to find in the UK but still widely available Stateside. Nutty and spicy with sweet fruit.

Kilchoman 100 percent Islay, 6th Edition // 50 percent alc., $80-$100

Released without an age statement but containing spirit distilled in 2010 and drawn from ex-bourbon barrels in 2016, this peated Scotch is distilled from barley grown on Islay and malted/peated at the distillery. Bright and citrusy with a delicious peaty zing!
