Is there a God gene? The idea–that a person’s capacity for belief in God, or lack thereof, is imprinted on her genetic code–is the basis of geneticist Dean Hamer’s 2004 book, The God Gene. But how realistic is the concept? Some scientists and religious leaders argue that there’s not much evidence that belief in God is encoded in our DNA.
