2013 Moment Magazine Creativity Award Recipient
Barton Rubenstein is an American sculptor and public artist with installations nationally and internationally.
A native Washingtonian, Rubenstein holds an M.S. in mathematics and computer science and a PhD in neuroscience from the Weizmann Institute in Israel.
Although Rubenstein was offered a post doctorate position at the National Institutes of Health, he deferred his acceptance in order to pursue his interest in metal sculpture. Enrolling at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, he studied welding, mold making, and the lost wax process, and created sculptures incorporating water. These water sculptures led to numerous exhibitions and commissions both in the United States and internationally.
In addition to his water sculptures, Rubenstein also creates wind kinetic sculpture and “sculpture in suspension,” both involving movement of the sculptural elements.
