Lynne Toporov (76), a Republican from Sarasota, FL, grew up in an agnostic Philadelphia family surrounded by Democrats. Her grandfather was a Communist. She was confirmed but does not consider herself religious and does not currently belong to a synagogue. She always voted for Democrats, including President Barack Obama, until about four years ago when she started listening to conservative talk radio and found she connected to what she heard.
We are providing the unfiltered opinions of voters interviewed for this project. Those views are based on their understanding and perception of facts and information from a range of sources. In some cases, that information may be misleading or incorrect.
Did the public impeachment hearings in the House of Representatives change your mind about whether the president should be impeached?
No, I think it was a big waste of our time and money. They really don’t have anything against him. There was such a rush to get him and now they’re holding back to be able to call more people to their liking to hopefully get more dirt. I sure do hope the Senate will do a great job and will let us get to the bottom of this finally!
Do you think it’s possible for Democrats and Republicans to ever agree on the facts around the president’s actions?
No because the Democrats have been trying to impeach Trump since he got elected.
Does impeachment hurt or improve Trump’s chances for re-election?
It improves Trump’s chances due to the public seeing what a farce this has become.
Are truthfulness and honesty key qualities for you in deciding which presidential candidate to support?
Yes, I have always felt that way.
Do you believe the candidate(s) you support are honest?
Yes. It’s a feeling I get from President Trump when he speaks of his honest intentions for our country because I think he truly cares. I know he embellishes but I don’t think with harmful intentions. That’s just what he does. I’ve been married for almost 60 years and my husband does it too, and sometimes it drives me crazy, but what can I do?
