Boots Riley – Jewish

Raymond Lawrence “Boots” Riley’s mother was born to a Black poet father and a Russian Jewish mother, who was a refugee from Königsberg, whose family had fled the Nazis. Riley considers himself Jewish.

Riley is an American rapper, songwriter and filmmaker. He was the lead vocalist of The Coup, a political rap group, then made his directorial debut with 2018’s Sorry to Bother You, based on their 2012 album of the same name. He created the television show I’m A Virgo (2023) and, most recently, directed the movie I Love Boosters (2026).
