Amy Winehouse – Jewish

Amy Winehouse was born to Jewish parents: a pharmacist and a taxi driver. As a child, she attended a weekly cheder, a Jewish primary school. She often performed with a Star of David medallion.

Winehouse was a British singer and songwriter influenced by blues and soul music. Her debut album, Frank (2003), was commercially successful in the UK and earned Winehouse an Ivor Novello Award. Her follow-up, 2006’s Back to Black, was an international commercial and critical success and won five awards at the 50th annual Grammy awards in 2008. In 2011, she passed away from alcohol poisoning.
