What happens when friends become strangers, but the present requires forgiveness? Join us for a conversation with the producers of the powerful new film Our Bodies & Other Shames: writer/actor Malka Wallick, director Jenny Lester, and actor Alysia Reiner.
Set against the backdrop of a Modern Orthodox Jewish community, Our Bodies & Other Shames follows three estranged childhood friends who reunite after one receives a devastating cancer diagnosis. Forced back into one another’s lives, they confront long-buried wounds, evolving identities and—quite literally—their younger selves.
We’ll explore the inspiration behind the film, the complexities of female friendship, the expectations placed on women and their bodies, the challenges of navigating faith and belonging, and how illness can become a catalyst for healing, forgiveness and self-discovery. We’ll also discuss bringing authentic Jewish stories to the screen, why deeply personal stories resonate far beyond a single community, and hear about the unique experience of creating a film that also features an exceptional cast of young actors who bring the characters’ childhoods to life. In conversation with Moment Editor Sarah Breger.
