By | Mar 27, 2026

Craigslist founder Craig Newmark reflects on the values that have shaped his civic outlook—from the influence of his upbringing and Jewish education to his belief in “Founding Father patriotism,” grounded in honesty, accountability and the Constitution. Newmark explains why he is speaking out about his politics, rising antisemitism and online scams, and what he’s doing to strengthen cybersecurity and protect vulnerable internet users. He also emphasizes the importance of having a moral compass, practicing humility and taking civic responsibility to defend democracy in our cacophonous, polarized era. Newmark is the recipient of Moment’s 2024 Inspirational Leadership Award. In conversation with Moment Editor Sarah Breger.

I use Craig’s List for every level of our business including recruiting and it is the best. And to know how fabulous, courageous and brilliant the founder and leader of the company is only adds to my support of this enterprise.
